Gazipasa Airport starts to stage test flights
Gazipasa Airport starts to stage test flights finally, showing some positive signs after years of debates and questions hanging in the air. The beginning marks the area's transition from a turbulent past to a clear future and gives hope to everyone, not only the residents of Gazipasa, but also to every local of the Mediterranean area.
Departure from Ankara Esenboga Airport that 28 persons belonging to a plane DHM? Headquarters, 2 pilots and 2 electronic technicians in the descent to the airport was Gazipasa.1850 meters of the airport runway as the plane was from east to west right pas. After about half an hour east of the airport the plane region did downhill piste from the mountainous region.Technicians in the aircraft flight control, the airport was not fully in the navigation device. The first aircraft in the has been met with joy by the people of Alanya and Gazipasa.
There was a happy ending to a long story when Gazipasa Airport started test flights last Tuesday, after more than a decade of preparation, criticism and waiting. When construction took off in 1992, Gazipasa Airport was set to deliver a new promise for everyone in the eastern Turkish Riviera, an area with a 100-kilometer radius. Not only the residents of Gazipasa but also the Alanya region in general and the locals of this Mediterranean stretch, extending as far as the historic town of Anamur were happy to see the beginning of a dream becoming a reality. When planned, executed and operated efficiently, the benefits of running an airport are countless. It drives human traffic to a region, generates revenue for local industries, creates multiple employment opportunities and attracts investment.
At the end of May 2009 a group of experts from the Civil Aviation Departamenta Turkey undertook evaluation for the issuance of licenses for the opening and operation of the airport in Gazipasa. The news has become a joyful, not only for locals but also foreigners - property owners in the area of Alanya, as well as for potential buyers who were planning to purchase real estate in the area of Turkey. As shown by the report of the experts from Turkey - International Center for Civil Aviation, based in Switzerland, also confirmed the airport Gazipa?a conformity with international standards. Sani Shener, General Coordinator of TAV, reported that the opening of the airport is scheduled for first week of June. At the official opening ceremony aeropota expected arrival of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan on a government aircraft.
Gazipasa Airport will be opened for international flights
Antalya Gazipa?a Airport is an airport currently under construction/expansion in the Alanya area of the Antalya province in Turkey. The airport was actually finished in 1999, and has a planned annual passenger capacity of 500,000 passengers, a terminal area of 2144 square meters and a parking lot with a capacity of 105 vehicles, but was not opened for operation. Talks were held in 2006, with reports commissioned by the national government, local government, and tourist organizations to actually commence operation of the airport. Finally, the decision was made clear in 2007 to operate the airport after numerous bids were submitted to operate the airport, with Tepe Akfen Ventures Airports Holding (TAV), winning the bid to operate the airport for 25 years with the condition of paying the government $50,000 a year, and offering a 65% share in profit.
TAV Airports Holding is now updating and expanding the airport, including lengthening the runway in order to handle international operations, among other things.
The airport was planned to open in mid-late 2008, But it is now postponed until the end of 2009. The new airport, if it ever opens, will provide the citizens/tourists of Alanya with a closer alternative to the Antalya airport. The Gazipa?a Airport will only be about 40 km, or 30 minutes drive, to the east from the heart of Alanya, versus about a two hour drive to the Antalya airport, being approx 200 km to the west from Alanya. The new airport is only 20 minutes from Yesiloz. It was expected to be fully operational for the 2009 tourist season, and when modified, expected to serve Alanya, Kemer, Yesiloz, Side, Manavgat and Anamur
There is much cynicism locally that the latest timing of the opening had more to do with the stagnant local property market than the actual opening, which is now delayed indefinitely.
The new Alanya-Gazipasa International airport is sure to have a positive impact on housing in Alanya and should bring more competition to the market for cheap flights to Turkey.
